It was a sunny day in the forest, the sun shone beautifully. It was also a rainy season. All the rivers, wells and streams were full of water. All the animals that lived in rivers and streams were very healthy and happy.
Crocodile also lived in the river. Unlike Crocodile's parents who were very wicked, threatened the other animals, and wounded or killed some of them, young Crocodile was a kind animal. However, because of the way his parents were before they died, every animal in the river feared young Crocodile. Even the animals on land and in the air feared him too.
Whenever young Crocodile tried to play with the fishes in the river, they would run away from him. Whenever he tried to play with the Swans, they would run before they even heard what he had to say. Whenever he tried to play with the Goose, they would also run away from him without hearing what he had to say.
Young Crocodile tried to play with other animals on land, they would all run away when they see him approaching. He tried to play with the birds too, but they would fly away before he said anything. Some of the animals would even pick up stones and throw them at him, to keep him away from them.
Young Crocodile became really worried and embarrassed. He would often ask himself, “Why do the other animals run away from me? Am I ugly? Am I scary? Have I done anything harmful to any one of them?” Sometimes, he would cry for a long time.
One day, Bear was passing by the river with her child, Baby Bear. Baby Bear was playing with a toy as they passed by the river. Somehow, baby Bear's toy fell in the river. She started to cry. She wanted her toy back.
Bear said, “My baby, you have to forget about the toy. Dangerous Crocodile lives in this river. I cannot go into the river or he would eat me up. I cannot ask for help from another animal because they are all afraid of young Crocodile.”
As Bear said these, baby Bear cried the more. She said, “Get me my toy! I want my toy. I am not going anywhere until I find my toy.” Then she cried even more.
While baby Bear was crying, a young crocodile who was sleeping became awake. He heard her crying for her toy. He saw the toy deep down in the river. He quickly took the toy and went to the surface of the river. He gave the toy to baby Bear. She was very happy that she found her toy. She gave a young crocodile a big hug. He was very happy too.
Many of the other animals watched all that happened. They were surprised. Many of them said Crocodile's parents would never have helped baby Bear to pick her toy if they were here. Instead, they would scare her away because of her crying.
From that time, they all changed their opinion about young Crocodile. They knew he was a kind animal. All the animals became friends with him. They were no longer scared of him.
Moral : Don't change your good behaviour because others don't acknowledge it. Very soon, they would know you for who you are.
